Mini crab snacks

My colleague just got back from KL, she brought us lots of goodies too. It was one particular snack that caught my attention, it is the mini crab snacks. I remember seeing that last time in a supermarket in Miri, but I do not see those anymore. I think it is a Japanese made snack, I did not have the chance to see the packaging before it was thrown away.

It is very crunchy, sweet, and addictive. After taking one and another, I keep taking more. I ended up putting it a side, so that I do not finish the whole thing. It is really an unique snack, I just wish they sell it here.My friend Kevin dropped by the office, he saw it and he said something funny about it. he said it is such a pity that the tiny crabs have to die so young, LOL!

I saw the pincher of the little crab, I just had to fool around with it.

Seafood

Last Sunday I met up with Ruzian my friend who came down from KL for work, we decided to drop by ocean seafood or was it something for dinner I cannot really remember the name(damn the bad memory). I know the know the place used to call New Fun Lin, it is near to the Borneo post office at the water front.

We ordered Fried rice, cockle with onions, Baby Kai lan with garlic, and black pepper prawn. The food is nice, the price is reseanoble as well too. Since we did not order any live seafood, that might be the reason for the good price. Live seafood always cost a bomb anywhere in Miri, but some places do have reasnoble price for it.

You don't mess with the Lalat

A couple days ago when I was in the office, we tried to get rid of a fly that was in the office. After many attempts, we failed to do so. It was my other colleague who came back and caught it with a tissue paper, of course I wanted to take a photo of it before doing something to it. Instead squishing it or pulling it the legs or wings, I just wrap it up in the tissue and just leave it in the rubbish bin. This just a random crap post.

German beer

When I was in Kuching last month, I visited the green height neighbourhood mall. The supermarket sells all sorts of imported goods there, which can be burn a hole in your wallet. I saw this weird looking fruit, it was very expensive as well. I found out from Irene that it was actually a horned melon from Africa, it looks very weird but interesting.

Photobucket

I saw some imported beers on the rack, I decided to buy one back to try. It is Warsteiner premium verum, I have never heard of this before, I am anxious to try it. All the wordings on the bottle is in German, I have no idea what does it say and I need Jan my German friend to translate for me.

The taste is actually mild, smooth, refreshing. It tasted a little sour, but overall the taste is good. A great beer to try, only in Kuching Green heights mall.

cannot take photo!

On my last day in Kuching, after having breakfast me and my uncle saw some kid selling soft shell turtles at the roadside. Before I head to the city to take some photographs, my uncle suggested to go get a photo of it. We approach the kid, my uncle was asking about the prices. I suddenly took a shot, the kid immediately tell me that I cannot take a photo. Here is how the conversation goes.

Kid: kamu tidak boleh ambil gambar( you cannot take photo)
me: kenapa? (why?)
Kid: nanti keluar newspaper, saya tidak boleh jual lagi
( later it'll appear on newspaper and I cannot sell anymore)
me: saya bukan wartawan, saya cuma ambil gambar untuk sendiri saja
(I'm not a reporter, I'm just taking it for myself)
kid: kalau mau, u beli semua dan ambil gambar lah
( if you want, you buy all and take photo)
*not to mention the price he is selling is such a ripped off!*'
me: kalau orang mau tangkap, awal awal sudah tangkap kamu lah! buat mau tunggu saya datang ambil gambar, kalau reporter mau ambil gambar, pun sudah awal awal datang ambil lah! betul?(
if the authorities wanted to catch you, they wouldn't have waited for me to take photo of you, if the reporters wanted to take a photo of you, they would have done it already, right?)
kid: tapi kamu tidak boleh ambil gambar, nanti keluar newspaper, saya tidak boleh jual lagi
( but you cannot take photo, later it'll appear on newspaper and I cannot sell anymore)
me: -_-"'

It seems like this boy does not even understand anything I said, so we just leave him alone. Anyway selling soft shell turtle is illegal here in Sarawak, no wonder he was so paranoid. Here's the photo I managed to take.

Citrus revisited

I drop by Citrus again, since they are officially opened and the menu is complete. Veronica my friend from Kuching happens to be in Miri, so I brought her for dinner at Citrus. Arnold then meet us up later over there, we ordered the baked beef rice, garden salad, and salmon.

The baked beef rice is nice, cheesy, creamy and beefy.

Photobucket

Arnold's salmon is superb, no smelly after taste of fish. The taste is just right, no over seasoning to mask the salmon's natural taste.

Photobucket

Citrus has did it again, the food did not let me down. Arnold and Veronica are happy with their food too, I think I might be going try everything in their menu.

Food patrol

It's time for some food photos, I went to Yong le cafe and good taste bak ku teh last week. Yong le cafe is famous for the noodles stall, when ever I drop by there I would order "pai guo" it looks something like rice noodles but thicker and I was even told that to cook that it takes seriously good skills to prepare that.

Photobucket

Next it's bak ku teh, the bak ku teh was alright but I still prefer the one that I had from Brunei. We had other dishes as well like garlic vege, claypot chicken with wine, and braised pork leg. Next stop, I want to go try out at chef's cafe at Morsjaya since I read about it so much in Miri community forum.

Kuching final post

This is going to be my final post of my Kuching trip, I decided to drop by Kuching city to photograph it before going back to Miri on the same day. Before going anywhere, I went for some good beef noodles. My uncle brought me to this place call "mdm Tang's" The place is also famous for their laksa. When the noodles was served on the table, I could not believe the portion of beef that was given to us. It was more than RM6.80 worth of beef! very very worth it, the noodles tasted great as well.

After breakfast, I was going around the city to photograph the old buildings and other interesting subjects. The old buidlings made me feel like I was in Malacca or Penang Island, it is really sad that in Miri the authorities decided to demolish the old buildings and build something new. Check out the photos below.

RWMF after math 2

It was day 2 after RWMF in Kuching city, I decided to drop by the spring check out the place. The spring shopping is pretty big, I heard that they are using a New Zeland shopping mall concept where the building is only 3 storeys high and the structure is wide to accommodate tenants.

Photobucket

I met up with Irene in the spring, she was hungry since she just woke up from her beauty sleep. We dropped by big apple donut to get some light meals before going for a proper meal, we got the durian, cheese, almond, pink panther, mango, and green tea. The donuts was alright, not as good as J.co donuts. My favourite is the durian flavour, very nice for durian lovers. The staff at big apple donut were not friendly at all, why is that fast food chain outlet's staffs are always like that? *sigh* such a big disappointment.

We went to this shop call life cafe at carpenter street, Irene told me that the "Mah Lat Mien" is one of the best dishes to try there. "Mah Lat" means hot and numb, must be the effect of the spiciness that caused the tongue to be numb, we both had the Mah lat mien and some fried dumplings. The noodles is good, spiciness kicks in during the 2nd or 3rd bite. After that you do not feel that spicy any more, since it has been numb. I was sweating bullets after that, the effect is strong that our stomachs got it as well and we had durian donut earlier. I lost my appetite after that, but it is recommended because it is just nice. Just another reminder, do not ever mix durian and mah lat mien. bad combination.

We then saw the really nice red color wall of the temple, I thought it would make a nice place to take some photos and we did some silly pose.
