RWMF after Math in Kuching.

After the rwmf every one is dead tired, I notice that the hotel put up some funny signage in the room, guests are told not cook in the room and they sell instant noodles at the lobby shop. So the guest cannot boil the water and cook the instant noodles?

I happen to have a souvenir from the Sarawak cultural village. I got bitten by some insect during the rwmf, it has become something like this.

Thank goodness the itch toleration is acceptable, If not I would have become a mad man scratching my stomach.I just drop by the pharmacy to get some ointment for the itch, then it is a short nap at my aunt's place before meeting my friends at Boulevard shopping mall.

Here I am in Boulevard shopping mall Kuching, I saw this kiddie pool in front of the shopping mall. It's a good idea to have that at the shopping mall premises for kids or who ever wants to cool off from the scorching hot weather. I met up with my friend from Kuching for a light snack at The Manhattan fish market, we did not want to fill up our stomach we going to have dinner in a short time. We ordered the garlic mussels and some fried seafood thing, the garlic did not overpower the mussels and it was just right. The fried seafood thing is not salty and oily, taste great too.

Next it is dinner time, we went to this place called "my village baruk restaurant" it is right across the river in the Malay Kampung areal. The restaurant can be reach by a bot from the city water front, if you have fear of riding the boat there is always the long way by a car. The design of the restaurant look nice and traditional, the atmosphere of the place is nice and relaxing too.

One thing that really turned us off was the rudest waiter I have ever met, the waiter said "Kitak mau order kah mau tanya aja" (you wanna order or you just wanna ask) WTF? you call that service? I really felt like tying up his hands, put mutated Iraqi fleas in his asshole and let him have the itch of his life. What could be worst if you ask, the other waitresses are the same as well! except for one who made the effort to smile. The service is already bad, the food came out late. By the time we have our food it was already cold. Although it tasted quite nice but not that nice since it was cold, this is one of the worst dinning experience I had.

I notice that they have a photo of the wall, Tv3's "Jalan cari makan" show(local tv food show) were there to gave them a review. So it is just because they have the fame and they can choose treat their customer like crap? this guys seriously need to train their staff and no more second time.

After dinner, I was brought to this kek lapis shop(layered cake). Kek lapis is one of the very famous food in Sarawak, it is pretty much sort after by tourist. We went into the room, there was so many types of kek lapis and it is very very colorful. good stuff, it can be very pricey as well.

Rainforest world music festival 2008 final

So this going to be the final post about the 11th rainforest world music festival 2008. Me and my roomies woke up late again, this time I managed to catch the final work shop of the day the "drum Dance". The workshop was held at the theater, I bumped into Irene at the cafeteria near the theater and we proceed on to the theater.

The workshop is about drummers meeting dancers, by combining the drums beats and dance moves to create the drum dance with each individual drummers from different continent around the world. The dancers performed the traditional Malay dance which is used during special occasions, they invited the audience to join them and teach some moves. After the dance lessons, there was a showdown between the drummers, the members of Okyotaan between one of the African groups. It was totally awesome, steel drum incorporating with traditional Indian drum beats? fusion, it was something worth to listen. Check out the videos below for the workshop session.

On to our spot for the performance for the night, Vinod and Vignesh were already there saving the best spot for the night. The line ups for the night is NEW ROPE STRING BAND (United Kingdom), ORCHESTRA ANAK JATI BISAYA (Sarawak), HIROSHI MOTOFUJI (Japan), OIKYOTAAN (India), ROSS DALY (Greece)KASAI MASAI (Congo/UK) and the grand finale.

I have already seen the new rope string band on day 1, The band is very good at keeping the crowd entertain with their witty acts. The weather looks promising and we were wrong about it, it started to rain again. It is a good thing that we were all prepared, the few of us had our ponchos packed in our bag.

Ochestra anak Jati Bisaya who came all way from Limbang, I do not often see Bisaya performance anywhere and I am not familiar about their culture as well. Their music instruments consist mostly of gongs and other percussion instruments, the band members are all kids. Kids who are still in primary school and I bet it must be such a wonderful experience for these kids to perform in front thousands of people.

After the seeing the Oikyotaan's members performing at the workshop, I was pretty excited about their performance. The band was good, the got the crowd dancing to the music. It did sound a little bollywood style, still it was fun getting your feet moving to the beats.

Last performance of the Kasai Masai, I cannot really recall how was their music. The performance was good I suppose, since there was people dancing and mud flying everywhere. When it was time for the finally, they did the same thing like last year. Each of the band comes right back to stage for last time, the confetti canons were fired to signal the end of the 11th rainforest world music festival 2008. As we were leaving SCV, we see people still playing in the mud. They were throwing mud everywhere, they were even throwing the mud on the stage with the volunteers and the bands there(such hooligans). Till then, I shall see you guys next year at the RWMF 09.

Getting my hair cut

I am planning to get my hair cut at the end of the month, most of you have the same problem as I do. The problem of deciding what kind of hair style to get? deciding on a hair can be an ass most of the time. I have my share of hair saloon nightmare a long time ago, my hair was something like the current one and I came out with a freaking mullet looking like Joe Dirt.

Thank God I have taken the liberty of choosing a good hair saloon, ok back to the main point. What type of hair style should I get? Let us have a look at the previous hair styles I had from the photos

No 2

Which one would you guys recommend? or I should just go for a trim and maintain my current hair style.

Rainforest world music festival 2008 part 2

It is day 2 at the rainforest, guess what? I overslept and missed the entire session of workshop. Instead I Just went for some food with Richard, Joanne and some friends, we decided to hang around the food stalls area while waiting for the show to start. The first night the field turned into a mud field from the heavy down pour, when we reach there we saw trucks and tractors bulldozing the sand over the field and it stinks. We thought that it would be better, instead it has made the mud even more thicker. The thickness of the mud was overwhelming, I almost lost my flip flops in it. I even heard that someone got both his feet stuck and fell face flat breaking his glasses *ouch*

It's good too see some friends from Miri, Khairul and Fish.

The line ups for the day 2 are, KANI’D (Sarawak, Malaysia), TUKU KAME (Sarawak), BELTAINE (Poland), ADEL SALAMEH (Palestine), YAKANDE (Gambia/Guinea), HIROSHI MOTOFUJI (Japan), SHELDON BLACKMAN (Trinidad & Tobago).

Kani'd is Sarawak's very own Kelabit band, the performance was ok and it was pretty mundane. The performers did not look very enthusiastic when performing, nervous?

Beltaine another band from Poland, their music reminds me very much of Shanon band from last year. You got to love the celtic music, the music just makes you want to dance.

Yakande a new band from Gambia and Guinea, the guy playing the weird looking guitar thing, it was interesting to see that. I must say that the female vocalist, she can booty shake very well.

Last but not least, Sheldon Blackman from Trinidad & Tobogo. Fantastic performance, each band members can play at least one music instrument.

If you look closely at the photo below, you can see someone who has a rather bizarre fashion taste. Can you spot the best dress person in the entire rainforest?

I could not be bothered to go over to the tree stage, since it was packed like sardines and the mud was a least six inch deep. Stay tune fore more in part 3
