Plants!!!

Just going to post some photos from my aunt's backyard in Kuching, It is going to be our country's 50th birthday in two more days. I bet those rempits cannot wait to rave their honda "kapchais" or whatever they are using on Merdeka eve, this makes me wish that i have some durians which would come in handy in either puncturing the tyres or throwing it at them.

Back at home

I am back home now, gramps has been discharged from the hospital and he is doing well. My flight was delayed for almost 5 hours before going to Limbang, i was told that there was actually no flights from Limbang for this whole week until Monday. I guess i was fortunate enough that there was a last minute cancellation, if not i would be stranded at the airport.

While i finished my shift watching my gramps there, I went around the house to take some photographs. As i mention earlier before, there are just many wonders of nature behind the house to be photographed.

Be a simpson

So you blokes and ladies out there love the Simpson's eh? probably most of you have wacthed the movie already, well i have not! unfortunately for us Mirians who happen to not have the movie privileges that other states have, i love to say this over and over again "STAR CINEPLEX SUCKS" Let us look on the bright side, we always have a way to get our movies if you know what i am saying.

Now i found this site which is really superb for those big Simpson's fans, it can transform your ugly mugshot into looking like one of the dudes from the Simpson's. All you need to do is get your ugly mugshot, then upload it here. Minimum size of the photo required is 640 x 480, you can pick your choice of skin color, hair, and etc.

So i simpsonized myself with my ugly mugshsot and the results are as below. It is not a 100% match, but it's a close one.

Sylvester's farewell

Last weekend Jacky invited us over for a simple gathering and farewell to Sylvester, who has left to the states to pursue the cultural learning benefits the unglorious nation of Miri. Ok, i made that up, actually he has went to the Iowa to pursue his degree. We had a simple bbq & steambot for the dinner, me & Syl was suppose to help to start the fire. He was complaining that it is so hot and he wants to go back for nice shower, me and him went back home for a nice shower.

We arrive back at the destination, the food was already half way cooked. I felt a bit bad that we left and did not really help the host to prepare the food, instead the host was fine with it. The food was fantastic, that means more weight gained. Today i had an intensive work out to burn out calories, it been a while since i work out. Must keep that in mind, if i do not what to buy new pants.

bla bla bla

When you say bla bla bla, people would think that you are pulling their legs or literally making fun of the conversation. It is actually a restaurant in Kuching, a very famous one too. Bla bla bla is owned the owner of the junk restaurant, I decided to give it a try for my last night in Kuching.

I read a couple of good reviews from a few bloggers who went there, the decors is very impressive, with kois in an indoor pond and you can see that the proprietor has dump a lot cash in it. I was always fooled by Kuching's shop lots, it looks so small from the outside and when you get inside it is a long way to the end.

I have tried many types of cooking for beeling but never have i heard that you can make a salad out of it, it was not my night since they ran out of beeling. Instead we ordered Mah poh tauhu, Thai style chicken and black pepper venison. The portions of the food was huge, three dishes is enough for five people to eat. While halfway through our dinner, we only realize that all three dishes we ordered was spicy food. So clever of us ordering, nevertheless we had a fantastic meal with bloated stomaches end it with a spanking good creme brulee.

The verdict, they serve really huge portions and I am not kidding about it. Even with three mouths we still failed to finish it off, unless with people like Eric or Kynan you will not have a problem finishing the left overs. A 4 out 5 star rating for the decors, ambience, food, service. good bye Kuching, I shall be back to hunt for more food. Many thanks to Irene and Jenny for bringing me around for the gastronomy experience.

Pinnoy in Padungan

Mabuhai or hello as we say it in English, I managed to meet with cousin Andee and Linda for dinner. They decided to bring for some Filipino delicacies, the restaurant is call "Pinnoy" which i am completely clueless to the actual meaning. When you mention Filipino food, you can pretty much expect what you are going have.

While on our way there, we spotted something right in front of us. It was a Proton Savvy, if you look carefully you will see what is actually stuck on the car's logo. As seen in one of my previous post and on shaolin tiger's post, it is one of those car bastardizations. (no offense, it is not cool at all and it is rather lame)

Let's put that to one side and focus on our main subject, food patrol in Kuching day 2. we have finally reach our destination, we were really hungry because we reached there around 9pm. They decorated the restaurant with Filipino's decors to create an atmosphere of the Philippines, very very Filipino indeed. The service was excellent, the waitress did a very good job in recommending. I cannot remember most of food's name, so the photo will probably tell what it is.

The verdict, the food was fantastic, especially the coconut cream seafood and the fried patta(pork leg) and what is better than finishing it off with a nice cold bottle of San Miguel beer. I am definitely coming back here if i ever drop by Kuching again. More Kuching food patrol post coming up, many thanks to cousin Andee & Linda for the fantastic meal.

Belacan Bee Hoon and Carvery

After the rainforest world music festival, it’s time for everyone to head back to their respective ways. I myself decided to stay a little longer at Kuching, to catch up with a few friends and went for food hunting.

The first place we go for food was at tabuan jaya, Irene said that the belacan bee hoon (shrimp paste vermicelli) is worth a try. It was a shame that I never even bother about trying the infamous belacan bee hoon when I was there, I shall not miss this opportunity.

It was good, despite the fact that some people do not like it. It has this sweet taste of the paste, together with lots of belacan in it. Thumbs up for this dish, strongly recommended by me if you never tried it before.

The next day we decided to drop by carvery, I am sure most of you know what to expect judging by the name. It is located somewhere at pending, which I find it quite a distance from the city. It is simply a heaven for meat lovers, they will not stop carving the meat until you give them instruction to stop. Each round they will give you a variety of choices of different type of meat and a buffet of salad. Is that good or what?

Sadly we only managed to go for two rounds, since it was quite late already and I was fashionably late too. More food galore from Kuching too come on the next post.

Rainforest Word Music Festival part 3

This is last post from me on the rainforest world music festival, it is the third and the last day of the festival of 2007. It kind of sad that it has to come to and end, but let's look on the bright side. I am so glad that my company actually forced to clear my off days, if they did not do so i would not be there at Kuching attending the Rainforest world music festival.

Let's get on with the flow, the work shop on the third day is heart beats and war dances. Heart beats consist of the percussion instruments from the bands of Shooglenifty, Ensemble Kaboul, Dog house skiffle group, Inka Marka, Tammora, and Aseanna percussion unit. Another hard pounding sound work shop, which i like. The war dances are presented by Black Umfolosi, showing us the traditional war dance from Zimbabwe.

One of the member from Aseana percussion unit by the name Justin Lim, easily recognise by his cool dreadlocks. The girls seem to like him a lot, the moment he starts playing the djembe and the girls starts screaming. Talk about a young handsome lad playing the djembe who have cool dreads, who managed to get the girls screaming for him. Job well done by Justin indeed.

The Black Umfolosi, who is one the crowd favourite from the festival. They taught us how to do the war dance of Zimbawe, the crowds love it or what? they're stomping through the whole way.
All the stomping and pounding, made me and Arthur creating our own music with the floor and we even named ourself "the Percussion floor unit" which you will never see performing.

Here are the line up for the final night of the festival, Anak adi' Rurum, Hussein Arman, Hanitra Rasoanaivo, Khac Chi, Tammorra, Inka Marka, Huun Huur Tu, Aseana Percussion Unit, Dog House Skiffle group, Shannon and the grand finale. I shall rest a bit here, the photos shall do the talking from here.
